Certified Nursing Assistant Interview
Here are the results of an interview with a CNA:
I am a single mom, and I was on public assistance. When I graduated high school, I told myself I was not able to be in relief, so I started working as an assistant nurse.
My first job was in a nursing home, and they sent me to school. I learned in college, learn CPR, hands-on things: how to give a bath, how to change the patient, how to safely transfer a person from bed to chair and chair to bed. The rest you learn on the job.
I learned more when I became a physical therapy assistant and moved to St. Peter’s. I do work a variety-of-motion with the patient. If the patient can walk, we walk them, help them exercise. If the patient has a stroke, we practice to achieve something. If someone has trouble swallowing, I monitor them during meals, guiding them to eat slowly and take small bites, so they do not aspirate the food. It takes patience.
